The upper alignment of the Zojila Axis witnessed multiple avalanches, which led to the closure of the Srinagar Sonamarg Gumri Road. As a result, all vehicles traveling from Sonamarg towards Kargil were trapped, putting the lives of passengers at risk due to heavy snowfall and low visibility on the road.
However, the situation was brought under control when the Karmyogis of Project Beacon, under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), immediately swung into action to rescue the stranded passengers. A total of 129 passengers were evacuated to the nearest BRO detachment, where they were provided with hot water, beverages, and food.
The snow clearance teams of Project Beacon are working tirelessly to open the axis at the earliest. The efforts made by the BRO personnel have been highly appreciated by the locals, as they have been instrumental in saving the lives of the trapped passengers.
The BRO is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of road networks in India’s border areas. The BRO’s role is vital in ensuring connectivity to the country’s remote areas, especially during harsh weather conditions such as heavy snowfall and avalanches.
The BRO has always been at the forefront of such rescue operations, and its personnel have displayed exemplary bravery and professionalism in their duties. The BRO’s motto “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” meaning “Everything is achievable through hard work” is a testament to the dedication and commitment of its personnel in serving the nation.
In conclusion, the Karmyogis of Project Beacon have once again proved their mettle by rescuing the trapped passengers on the Zojila Axis. Their bravery and commitment to serving the nation are highly commendable, and their efforts have been instrumental in saving many lives.
