BRO Achieves Milestone with 260-Meter Kandi Tunnel on Akhnoor-Poonch Road (NH 144A)
The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has reached a significant milestone in Project Sampark, focusing on National Highway 144A (NH144A) from Akhnoor to Poonch. This crucial project, divided into eight packages, aims to enhance the road’s Horizontal and Vertical Profile, and BRO is making remarkable progress.
In a commendable engineering feat, the first of the four tunnels, the 260-meter Kandi Tunnel, has achieved a breakthrough. This accomplishment underscores the dedication and hard work of the BRO team.
Despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and landslides, tunnel construction, which began in March 2023, has seen remarkable progress. The breakthrough came ahead of schedule, reflecting the exceptional expertise and determination of the BRO. Brigadier Tejpal Singh, SM, Chief Engineer Project Sampark, witnessed this momentous occasion.
Package – 1 is anticipated to be completed by June 2024. Once finished, this tunnel will shorten the road by 2.5 kilometers, enhancing connectivity and making travel between Akhnoor and Poonch more efficient.
Moreover, this tunnel will play a vital role in improving strategic connectivity for the Armed Forces, facilitating smoother movement from Jammu to Poonch. The BRO is committed to the timely and successful execution of all its projects, exemplifying its dedication to enhancing transportation infrastructure and serving the nation.
