In a recent update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclonic storm “Michaung” has unleashed significant rainfall across Andhra Pradesh. IMD Observation as of 05-12-2023 (0130 HRS IST): The severe cyclonic storm “Michaung” is currently located over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts. The storm has moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 7 kmph during the past six hours. As of 0130 hours IST on December 5, 2023, the storm is centered near latitude 14.55°N and longitude 80.25°E, approximately 30 km east-northeast of Nellore.

Current Intensity and Forecast: The current intensity near the center is reported to be 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph. The system is expected to move nearly northwards, parallel and close to the south Andhra Pradesh coast. The forecast indicates that the cyclonic storm will make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla during the forenoon of December 5, 2023, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph.
