Boosting Local Economies: “One Station One Product” Initiative Flourishes Across Railway Stations

In a significant move towards fostering the “Vocal for Local” vision, the Ministry of Railways has successfully implemented the “One Station One Product” (OSOP) scheme. This initiative aims to provide a platform for local and indigenous products, aligning with the Government of India’s commitment to supporting local businesses and creating additional income opportunities for marginalized sections of society.

As of November 30, 2023, a total of 1189 OSOP outlets are now operational at 1083 railway stations across the country. These outlets have been strategically allotted to local beneficiaries, including 184 artisans, 630 craftsmen, 147 weavers, 202 agricultural/forest product producers, and more.

The OSOP scheme focuses on enriching the livelihoods of local artisans, potters, weavers, handloom weavers, craftsmen, and others by providing dedicated sale outlets at railway stations. The objective is to enhance opportunities for these local entrepreneurs and promote their products to a wider audience.

The scheme has proven to be a success, with 41,280 direct beneficiaries having availed themselves of the opportunities provided under the OSOP initiative. This significant impact underscores the positive influence of the scheme on local economies and the livelihoods of individuals involved in traditional crafts and products.

The Ministry of Railways continues its commitment to expanding the reach of the OSOP scheme, with the goal of establishing outlets at more railway stations across the nation. The ongoing effort is aligned with the broader mission of Indian Railways to enhance customer amenities and contribute to the development of stations.

The Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronic & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, provided this information in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the government’s dedication to supporting local artisans and boosting the “One Station One Product” initiative.
