Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, expressed his warm congratulations to the exceptional railway sportspersons who participated in the 19th Asian Games. The gathering included Dola Banerjee, Senior Sports Officer of Eastern Railway and Deputy Chef De Mission of the Indian Contingent, along with Amit Rohidas, Assistant Sports Officer of East Coast Railway and a member of the Gold Medalist Indian Men’s hockey team.

During the meeting, Minister Vaishnaw praised the remarkable achievements of the Indian Contingent in the 19th Asian Games, which took place in Hangzhou, China. The Indian Railways (IR) played a significant role, with a total of 98 members participating, including 90 players, 7 coaches, and Dola Banerjee in her role as Deputy Chef De Mission. These dedicated railway sportspersons collectively contributed to a total of 22 medals out of India’s impressive tally of 107 medals at the Asian Games.

In contrast to the previous 18th Asian Games in 2018, where IR players contributed 9 medals to India’s total of 69 medals, their contribution has notably surged to 22 out of 107 medals in the 19th Asian Games. This remarkable increase signifies a significant 58% growth in the contribution of IR players to the Indian medal tally.

The Minister commended the unwavering dedication and outstanding performance of the railway athletes, emphasizing their crucial role in India’s success at the Asian Games. Their achievements are a testament to the talent and determination within the Indian Railways sports community.

This recognition not only celebrates the accomplishments of these athletes but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring sports talents within the Indian Railways and across the nation.
