Ashwini Vaishnaw Discusses India’s 5G Advancements at India Mobile Congress 2023
New Delhi, India – The India Mobile Congress 2023 kicked off in the capital, Delhi, with a special inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the event, Central Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke exclusively to News Editor Siddharatha about the rapid 5G deployment across the country.
Minister Vaishnav highlighted India’s achievements in the 5G domain, stating that over the past year, India has emerged as one of the top three countries globally in the field of 5G. He emphasized that India has witnessed the world’s fastest 5G rollout, with services available in more than 750 districts across the nation. Interestingly, Bhagalpur in Bihar, a tier-three city, has shown substantial 5G adoption, marking a significant milestone.
When questioned about the transition from 2G to 5G, Minister Vaishnav emphasized the transparent and stable policies implemented by the current government. He noted that the Modi administration has focused on honesty and integrity in every aspect of policy, working diligently to place India at the forefront of national progress.
Discussing mobile manufacturing in India, Minister Vaishnav proudly declared that the nation has achieved the second rank globally in this industry. He highlighted the remarkable transformation from negligible mobile manufacturing a decade ago to today’s $44 billion mobile manufacturing industry and an $11 billion mobile export industry. India is now a hub for mobile design and semiconductor manufacturing, with a thriving ecosystem.
Furthermore, he explained that an ecosystem is forming in India, where various components are being developed. For instance, Gorilla Glass, which is a key component in mobile phones, will soon be manufactured in India, showcasing the nation’s growing capabilities.
