Air Marshal Makarand Ranade Assumes Role as Director General (Inspection and Safety) at Air HQ
New Delhi, December 1, 2023: In a significant appointment, Air Marshal Makarand Ranade has taken over as the Director General (Inspection and Safety) [DG (I&S)] at Air HQ, New Delhi, effective December 1, 2023.
An esteemed alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi, and the College Interarmée de Defense in Paris, France, Air Marshal Makarand Ranade commenced his illustrious career in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on December 6, 1986. With a remarkable service spanning over 36 years, he has held pivotal field and staff appointments, including the command of a fighter squadron and two flying stations. His diverse roles also encompass being a directing staff at Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment and Defence Services Staff College. Notably, he served as Air Attaché at the Embassy of India in Kabul, Afghanistan. At Air HQ, he has served in crucial positions such as Director, Personnel Officers, Principal Director, Directorate of Air Staff Inspection, and Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (Space). Before assuming his current role, Air Marshal Ranade held the position of Senior Air Staff Officer at HQ Western Air Command, New Delhi.
The distinguished career of Air Marshal Makarand Ranade includes being honored with the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) in 2006 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020.
Air Marshal Ranade succeeds Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor, who superannuated on November 30, 2023, concluding a commendable service of over 38 years.
