Prime Minister Narendra Modi Embarks on Official State Visit to USA and Egypt
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake a significant diplomatic trip to the United States and Egypt from June 20 to June 25, 2023. The visit comes at the invitation of President Joseph Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, underscoring the importance of bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary begins with New York, where he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21. This event holds special significance as the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2014, designating June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
From there, Prime Minister Modi will head to Washington D.C., where he will receive a warm ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22. Subsequently, he will engage in high-level discussions with President Biden, further strengthening the dialogue between the two nations. President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will also host a grand State Dinner in honor of the Prime Minister later that evening.
The Prime Minister has also been invited to address a Joint Sitting of the U.S. Congress on June 22, following an invitation extended by Congressional Leaders, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Kevin McCarthy, and Senate Majority Leader, Mr. Charles Schumer.
During his stay in the United States, Prime Minister Modi will attend a luncheon jointly hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on June 23. In addition to these official engagements, the Prime Minister is slated to hold interactive sessions with leading CEOs, professionals, and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of economic cooperation. He will also connect with the Indian Diaspora residing in the United States.
Following his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Modi will embark on a State Visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt from June 24 to June 25, 2023. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended the invitation to the Prime Minister during his presence as the ‘Chief Guest’ at India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2023. This visit will mark Prime Minister Modi’s inaugural trip to Egypt.
During his time in Egypt, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with President Sisi, promoting strategic ties between the two nations. The Prime Minister is also expected to engage with senior dignitaries from the Egyptian Government, notable Egyptian personalities, and the Indian community residing in Egypt. The longstanding relations between India and Egypt, built on historical trade, cultural connections, and people-to-people ties, were recently elevated to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ during President Sisi’s State Visit to India in January 2023.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States and Egypt underscores India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, fostering cooperation, and expanding opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity.
