Prime Minister Narendra Modi Boosts India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing in Meetings with Tech CEOs
Washington DC, June 21, 2023 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level discussions with several prominent CEOs from the technology industry during his visit to Washington DC. The meetings, aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, included talks with Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron, H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., CEO of General Electric (GE), and Gary E. Dickerson, CEO of Applied Materials.
During the meeting with Sanjay Mehrotra, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Micron Technology, emphasizing India’s potential to offer competitive advantages across various aspects of the semiconductor supply chain. In a separate meeting with Gary E. Dickerson, President and CEO of Applied Materials, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to contribute to India’s burgeoning semiconductor ecosystem. Recognizing Applied Materials’ expertise, the Prime Minister urged the company to participate in the development of advanced process technology and packaging capabilities within India. Additionally, the Prime Minister and Mr. Dickerson discussed the potential for collaboration between Applied Materials and Indian academic institutions to foster the creation of a highly skilled workforce in the semiconductor industry.
