NCGG Trains 24th Batch of Maldives Civil Servants, Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) successfully concluded a two-week Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for civil servants from Maldives, marking the training of the 24th batch. In collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the program aimed to enhance the skills and capabilities of civil servants in the field of public administration and governance. The initiative is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NCGG and the Government of Maldives, with the goal of training 1,000 civil servants by 2024. With 685 officers from Maldives already benefiting from the program, this achievement highlights the shared values and collaborative spirit between the two nations, aligning with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘neighbourhood first’ approach.
The valedictory session, presided over by Bharat Lal, Director General of NCGG, emphasized the importance of leveraging the learnings gained during the training program to drive positive change and holistic development. Bharat Lal urged the officers to focus on improving the quality of life for citizens and to actively contribute to elevating the well-being and welfare of the people they serve. Recognizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ensuring basic necessities for all citizens, such as housing, education, healthcare, and skill development, Bharat Lal emphasized the need for civil servants to emulate these initiatives and make significant progress in enhancing the ease of living.
Addressing the role of civil servants in the education sector, Bharat Lal stressed the importance of providing equitable access to education and addressing gaps in learning opportunities. He called for a holistic approach to skill development, highlighting the crucial role that a well-educated and skilled workforce plays in fostering innovation, productivity, and competitiveness in the global arena.
Furthermore, Bharat Lal underscored the significance of empowering women by providing them with essential facilities, including 24-hour water and power supply, and adequate sanitation facilities. He emphasized that empowering women not only promotes economic growth but also fosters gender equality. By ensuring women’s equal participation in economic activities, societies can unlock the full potential of their human capital and drive sustainable growth.
Bharat Lal also emphasized the importance of embracing the digital revolution and leveraging the latest IT innovations for advancing digital governance. By adopting digital tools and platforms, civil servants can enhance decision-making, improve data management, and increase accessibility to government services, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of governance.
During the program, participants had the opportunity to visit various developmental projects and institutions, providing them with valuable insights into the practical aspects of governance. Notable visits included the Smart City in Dehradun, Central Information Commission, and Pradhanmantri Sanghralaya, enriching the participants’ knowledge and understanding of governance practices.
The 24th CBP for Maldives civil servants was supervised by Dr. B. S. Bisht, the course coordinator, along with Dr. Sanjeev Sharma and the entire CBP team of NCGG. Their contributions in curriculum development, session coordination, and knowledge dissemination played a vital role in creating a comprehensive and impactful learning experience for the participants.
The successful completion of the training program further strengthens the bilateral relations between India and Maldives, demonstrating a shared commitment to fostering effective governance and cooperation in the region.
