Chief of the Army Staff Embarks on Visit to Egypt to Strengthen Defence Ties
Delhi, May 15, 2023 – General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has embarked on an official visit to Egypt, scheduled from May 16 to May 17, 2023. This visit aims to bolster the Indo-Egypt defence relations and explore avenues for further collaboration between the two nations.
During his stay, General Pande will engage in high-level meetings with Egypt’s senior military leadership. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation and identifying new areas of mutual interest. The Army Chief is expected to visit various Egyptian Armed Forces establishments to gain insights and exchange ideas on matters pertaining to defence and security.
Among the distinguished officials General Pande is scheduled to meet are the Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence & Military Production, and the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Additionally, he will hold extensive deliberations with the Chief of the Egyptian Armed Force Operations Authority.
The visit comes at a time when military ties between India and Egypt have been steadily progressing. This was exemplified during India’s 74th Republic Day parade, where the Egyptian Armed Forces contingent made their inaugural appearance, and the Chief Guest for the occasion was Egyptian President Abdeh Fattah El-Sisi. Furthermore, the Indian and Egyptian Armies recently conducted their first-ever joint exercise called “Ex Cyclone-I” in January this year.
It is anticipated that the visit of the COAS will deepen the bilateral relationship between the Indian and Egyptian armies, facilitating enhanced coordination and cooperation on a range of strategic issues. This engagement is poised to act as a catalyst for closer ties between the two countries, fostering mutual growth and security.
