Prime Minister Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Redevelopment of 508 Railway Stations Across India in a Historic Initiative

In a momentous and transformative step towards revamping India’s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the foundation stone laying ceremony for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations nationwide. The historic event is scheduled for 6th August at 11 AM via video conferencing.
Prime Minister’s Vision for World-Class Amenities:
Prime Minister Modi has long underscored the importance of providing state-of-the-art public transport, with railways being the preferred mode of transportation for people across the country. His vision of offering world-class amenities at railway stations is being realized through the launch of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aiming to redevelop a total of 1309 stations across India.
Integrating Stations as Vibrant ‘City Centres’:
The foundation stone laying ceremony on 6th August will mark the commencement of the redevelopment of 508 railway stations, an ambitious project with a budget of over Rs. 24,470 crores. These stations will be reimagined as ‘City Centres,’ with Master Plans being prepared to ensure seamless integration of both sides of the city. This integrated approach reflects the holistic vision of overall urban development, with the railway station at its heart.
Rail Minister’s Commitment and Progress:
Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, speaking to NewsStation on the redevelopment of railway stations, highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing passenger amenities. The Prime Minister is personally monitoring the progress and has contributed valuable inputs to the station designs. Indian Railways has set a target to complete this massive redevelopment undertaking for 508 stations within a two-year timeframe.
Nationwide Reach of Redevelopment:
The 508 stations selected for redevelopment are spread across 27 states and union territories, with significant clusters in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Karnataka, among others.
Inspired by Local Culture and Architecture:
The redevelopment will go beyond mere aesthetics, focusing on modern passenger amenities, efficient traffic circulation, seamless inter-modal integration, and well-designed signage for passengers’ guidance. The design of the station buildings will draw inspiration from local culture, heritage, and architecture, adding unique identities to each station.
