PM Modi to Launch India’s First Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) on October 20
In a momentous occasion for India’s transportation sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor on October 20, 2023. The inauguration will take place at the Sahibabad RapidX Station, Uttar Pradesh, at around 11:15 AM.
Key Highlights:
- Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Launch: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not only inaugurate the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor but also flag off the RapidX train that connects Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, marking the launch of India’s first RRTS.
- RRTS – A Game-Changer for Regional Mobility: The RRTS, being developed in the country, represents a state-of-the-art regional mobility solution, comparable to the best in the world. With a design speed of 180 Kmph, RRTS aims to provide high-speed trains for intercity commuting every 15 minutes, with the potential to increase frequency to every 5 minutes as needed.
- Phase-I Implementation: Out of the eight identified RRTS corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR), three corridors have been prioritized for implementation in Phase-I. These include the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar Corridor, and Delhi-Panipat Corridor. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, with an estimated cost of over Rs 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in under an hour, passing through urban centers like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
- Transformative Regional Mobility: The RRTS is poised to provide a safe, reliable, and modern intercity commuting solution that aligns with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. It aims for extensive multi-modal integration with railway stations, metro stations, bus services, and more. These transformative regional mobility solutions are expected to boost economic activity in the region, improve access to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities, and contribute significantly to reducing vehicular congestion and air pollution.
Bengaluru Metro Stretches Dedication:
Apart from the RRTS launch, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate two stretches of the Bengaluru Metro to the nation. These stretches connect Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta. While these metro stretches were already in public service from October 9, 2023, the formal inauguration underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing urban transportation infrastructure and accessibility.
The inauguration and dedication ceremonies mark a significant step towards transforming India’s regional connectivity and enhancing public transportation, offering improved mobility options for residents and commuters alike.
