PM Modi Inaugurates Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, Flags Off RapidX ‘NaMo Bharat’ Train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment in India’s urban transit by inaugurating the 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor. This momentous occasion took place in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, where the Prime Minister also flagged off the first RapidX train, affectionately named ‘NaMo Bharat,’ marking the official launch of the RRTS in the country.

  • Inauguration of Priority Section: Prime Minister Modi formally inaugurated the 17-kilometer priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor. This vital section connects Sahibabad to the Duhai Depot and features five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.
  • Launch of ‘NaMo Bharat’: As part of the inaugural event, Prime Minister Modi proudly flagged off the RapidX train, aptly named ‘NaMo Bharat,’ which will connect commuters between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations. This historic moment signifies the initiation of the Regional Rapid Transit System in India.
  • Interaction with School Children: During the event, Prime Minister Modi had the opportunity to interact with school children and the crew of the ‘NaMo Bharat’ train. This engagement allowed the Prime Minister to share insights and connect with the future generation of Indian commuters.
  • Foundation Stone Laying: The foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project was initially laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019, marking the beginning of this transformative transportation system.
  • RapidX Features: The RapidX system, developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation, promises a new era in urban transit. These trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph and can reach a maximum speed of 180 kmph. Each air-conditioned RapidX trainset will accommodate up to 1,700 passengers, offering a mix of luxury and regular coaches. A dedicated coach will be reserved for women passengers.
  • Fare Structure: The fares for RapidX will vary based on the class of coach chosen. Standard class fares will range from Rs 20 to Rs 50, with a maximum fare of Rs 50 for the entire route from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot. Premium class fares will range from Rs 40 to Rs 100, providing flexibility and options for commuters.

The launch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor and the ‘NaMo Bharat’ RapidX train ushers in a new era of efficient, high-speed urban transit in India, significantly improving connectivity and mobility in the National Capital Region.
