Passport Verification Record Now Available on DigiLocker, Boosting Ease and Security for Citizens

In a major digital governance upgrade, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled Passport Verification Records (PVR) to be accessed directly through DigiLocker. The secure, cloud-based platform—part of the Digital India initiative—allows citizens to store, share, and verify official documents digitally.

The new feature marks a significant step toward paperless, contactless, and citizen-centric public service delivery. After successful verification, users can now retrieve their PVRs under the “Issued Documents” section of DigiLocker, eliminating the need to maintain physical copies.

Officials said the integration will streamline processes related to travel, employment, and compliance, where verified passport details are required. Since records are digitally issued by government systems, they remain tamper-proof, authentic, and instantly verifiable.

The move also supports secure digital sharing through consent-based access, reducing the reliance on attested photocopies and repeated physical submissions. By shifting passport-related verification into a fully digital workflow, the initiative strengthens India’s digital public infrastructure while promoting greener, paperless governance.

The collaboration between MEA, NeGD and MeitY reflects a unified government approach to improving service delivery. Millions of passport applicants and holders are expected to benefit through faster verification, improved accessibility, and a more secure digital experience.
