Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Achieves Historic Milestone as India’s First Net Positive Energy Factory

In a remarkable feat of sustainability, the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has etched its name in history as the first Net Positive Energy Factory within the Indian Railways network. Known for its unwavering commitment to eco-friendly initiatives and harnessing green energy from natural sources, ICF has been a trailblazer in environmental stewardship.

ICF’s journey toward sustainability has been characterized by numerous accolades, and its most recent achievement is the prestigious “Shunya Plus Certification” bestowed upon it by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

The factory’s remarkable journey towards achieving this milestone involves a careful balance between energy consumption and generation. Currently, ICF consumes approximately 18.9 million units (MU) of electric energy annually while generating a substantial 22.2 million units of green energy per annum. This achievement not only positions ICF as a leading green workplace but also as a significant contributor to combating global warming.

To celebrate this historic accomplishment, a symbol of environmental consciousness was unveiled today, October 9, 2023. Nestled within the serene Administrative Building Lawns at the Shell Division of ICF, a captivating Solar Tree was introduced to the world. Crowned with the words “I Love ICF,” this solar tree harnesses the power of the sun through its solar panels.

The inauguration of this unique Solar Tree was carried out by Mr. J.X. Jhonson Fernando, Senior Section Engineer, and witnessed by Mr. B.G. Mallya, General Manager of ICF, Mr. C.R. Harish, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, along with other heads of departments, officers, and dedicated staff members of ICF.

This remarkable Solar Tree boasts an installed capacity of 1.125 kW, capable of producing 4 to 5 units of electricity during a typical full solar day. The tree not only symbolizes ICF’s dedication to green energy but also serves as a beacon of hope for a sustainable and environmentally-conscious future.

ICF’s journey from being the first Carbon Negative unit within the Indian Railways to becoming a Net Positive Energy Factory exemplifies the organization’s unwavering commitment to a greener and more sustainable India.
