Indian Railways Adopts Innovative Approach to Enhance Passenger Convenience with Popular Area-Station Name Linking
In a bid to improve passenger experience and streamline journey planning, Indian Railways has taken a significant step by adopting an innovative approach of linking popular areas/cities with small railway stations. This new initiative aims to eliminate confusion and offer personalized passenger experiences during ticket booking on the website and mobile app.
Starting from tomorrow, July 21, 2023, passengers will not only be prompted with the station name but also the right place while planning their journeys. For instance, Sarnath has been linked with Banaras, Sabarmati with Ahmedabad, and Panvel with Mumbai, making identification of small stations with popular cities/areas more accessible.
The implementation of this approach includes linking satellite cities to their connecting railway stations, such as Noida to New Delhi. This move will not only enhance ease of station search for tourists but also ensure better connectivity options for passengers.
As part of this endeavor, technology application changes have been made, and 175 popular cities/areas have been mapped with 725 stations. The updated functionality will be displayed on the journey planner and electronic reservation slip of the ticket, providing a seamless and user-friendly experience.
This progressive step will bring forth a host of benefits to the passengers, including:
- Better and Personalized Journey Planning: Passengers can now enjoy an improved and personalized experience while planning their rail journeys.
- Tourist Convenience: The initiative will facilitate ease of station search for tourists visiting popular tourist destinations like Kashi, Khatu Shyam, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, etc., as they will be mapped to their nearest railway stations.
- Enhanced Connectivity: By linking satellite cities to their connecting railway stations, better connectivity options will be available for passengers.
- Regional Importance and Pride: Associating popular city names with railway stations will instill a sense of pride and ownership among citizens.
Additionally, this functionality will aid in providing ease of communication in case of changes in station due to operational reasons. For instance, if a scheduled station is changed due to operational/maintenance activities, the journey planner will show the alternate station in the search, streamlining the travel process for passengers.
Moreover, the generated data from the Management Information System (MIS) will enable better planning of new trains and station amenities, further improving the overall railway experience for the passengers.
With this innovative approach, Indian Railways aims to create a seamless and convenient rail travel experience for millions of passengers, ensuring they reach their destinations with ease and comfort.
