Historic Inauguration of India’s First RAPIDX Regional Rail Between Sahibabad and Duhai: Transforming Commutes with Comfort and Convenience

RAPIDX: Redefining Regional Commuting with Unprecedented Comfort, Safety, and Connectivity

India’s eagerly anticipated Regional Rail system, RAPIDX, is set to debut with an inaugural ceremony graced by Prime Minister Modi on October 20th. This revolutionary transportation initiative is designed to transform regional commutes, featuring an 82-kilometer corridor under construction to connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.

RAPIDX, with an operational speed of 160 kmph, is poised to offer a host of commuter-centric amenities. These include ergonomically designed 2×2 transverse seating, ample standing space, secure luggage racks, advanced CCTV surveillance, laptop and mobile charging stations, dynamic route maps, auto-controlled ambient lighting, and a state-of-the-art Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System (HVAC).

The service will operate from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, with trains departing at 6:00 am and 11:00 pm. Initial train frequency will be every 15 minutes, with the flexibility to increase as demand dictates.

Each RAPIDX train boasts six coaches accommodating approximately 1700 commuters. Standard coaches offer 72 seats, while Premium coaches provide 62 seats. A designated coach for women is situated next to the Premium coach, and reserved seating for women, specially-abled individuals, and senior citizens is available in each coach.

One Premium coach on each RAPIDX train features added commuter-centric features such as reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests. The first coach en route from Meerut to Delhi and the last coach from Delhi to Meerut are designated as Premium Coaches. Access to the Premium Coach is provided via a Premium Lounge at the platform level, complete with comfortable seating and vending machines.

A Train Attendant will be present in every RAPIDX train to assist commuters and ensure their safety during the journey.

Multiple ticketing options are available, including paper QR code-based journey tickets, Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and digital QR code-based tickets through the ‘RAPIDX Connect’ mobile application. Customer Care Centers and Help Call Points are accessible for any ticket-related inquiries or emergencies.

To enhance commuter convenience, spaces for wheelchairs and stretchers are available in the last coach of each train. Electronic public displays provide real-time train arrival information, and seating is provided on the platform level.

Facilities for drinking water, washrooms, and a diaper-changing station for young children are available at every station. Commuters can gather information about train services from the Information Desk, ‘RAPIDX Connect’ mobile application, and social media platforms, or contact the RAPIDX Customer Service Centre.

First Aid and Lost & Found centers are established at RAPIDX stations for commuter safety and convenience. Passenger Emergency Communication Units are installed in each coach, along with Platform Screen Doors for added safety.

To ensure security, AI-enabled Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) and luggage scanners with artificial intelligence are implemented at stations. Security is overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) in Uttar Pradesh and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Delhi, with police stations and posts dedicated to RAPIDX security.

The stations feature captivating wall murals, dedicated station pick-up and drop areas, and parking facilities for commuters. Pedestrian-friendly paths, lifts, escalators, and seating areas enhance universal access. Feeder services, operated by mobility partners, bridge the last mile gap and connect urban and village communities surrounding RAPIDX stations, providing comprehensive transportation coverage. This move addresses the longstanding challenges faced by commuters due to inadequate transportation options.
