ECI Collaborates with Chacha Chaudhary & Sabu to Educate and Motivate Young Voters Through Comics
In a unique and innovative move to engage and inspire young voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has joined forces with the iconic comic book characters, Chacha Chaudhary and Sabu. The collaborative initiative has resulted in the creation of a comic book titled “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal” (Chacha Chaudhary and the Electoral Battle).
The comic book was officially launched by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel, at Nirvachan Sadan. This endeavor, a joint initiative of ECI and Pran Comics, aims to encourage youth participation in the democratic process and provides a creative platform to impart election-related information.
Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, and Billoo, brought to life by the renowned cartoonist late Pran Kumar Sharma, feature prominently in this comic book. These beloved characters have been charming readers of all generations with their captivating dialogues and timeless appeal.
CEC Rajiv Kumar emphasized the continued relevance of comics as an outreach medium, even in the digital age. He shared that these characters, known for their values of honesty, kindness, and compassion, provide an engaging way to creatively convey information related to elections. With a significant following among children and teenagers, this medium enables the Election Commission to effectively connect with the youth, fostering informed and responsible citizenship from an early age. The comic book not only helps children understand the election process but also allows older generations to reminisce about their childhood.
EC Anup Chandra Pandey highlighted that the comic book presents critical issues like ethical elections, participative democracy, and the influence of muscle and money power in a reader-friendly manner, making it relevant for both children and adults.
EC Arun Goel stressed that the comic book conveys a positive and constructive message about the election process while infusing humor, encouraging young and future voters to actively participate in the electoral process.
The comic book serves as a multifaceted tool, focusing on various aspects of voter awareness. Its primary objective is to motivate young eligible voters to register themselves and participate actively in upcoming elections. Within its pages, Chacha Chaudhary introduces readers to various apps developed by the Election Commission of India, such as cVigil and KYC, empowering them to engage as informed participants in the electoral process. The comic also strongly emphasizes the importance of women’s participation in elections, aligning with ECI efforts to increase female representation.
The comic book is available in both print and digital formats, ensuring accessibility across all platforms. To inspire young minds, free copies will be distributed to schools, educating future voters about the electoral process. The digital copy can be accessed here.
Chacha Chaudhary’s enduring popularity extends beyond urban areas, resonating deeply in small towns and villages across India. Since its introduction by Cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma in 1960, the character’s timeless appeal continues to captivate hearts. This innovative initiative taps into the emotional connection forged through nostalgia, creating a holistic approach to voter awareness.
Nikhil Pran, Director and Publisher of Pran Comics, and senior officials of the Commission were also present at the launch event.
