Central Railway Accelerates Rooftop Solar Initiative, Targets Increased Energy Efficiency Through Clean Energy Adoption
In a notable stride towards sustainable energy practices, Central Railway (CR) has surged ahead in its Rooftop Solar initiative, aiming to enhance energy efficiency with the adoption of clean energy solutions. The latest update highlights significant progress, with 8.11 MW already installed and an ambitious target of an additional 4 MW on the horizon.
October 2023 witnessed a major boost to the initiative, with 85 kW of solar installations completed across key locations. This included installations in Kalamboli (20 kW) and Mumbai division, Rukadi (20 kW) and Masur (25 kW) in Pune division, and Chandur Bazar (20 kW) in Nagpur division.
CR has further solidified its commitment to sustainable energy by securing the awarded work for a 1 MW solar plant at 81 locations. Notably, a 1 MW solar power plant is actively being installed at Ajni, Nagpur, while progress continues on an additional 1 MW plant in Pune division.
The railway authority is proactively exploring vacant and unused railway land for potential solar installations. This strategic approach aligns with CR’s dedication to leveraging renewable energy sources and utilizing available lands effectively for solar power initiatives.
As Central Railway advances in its Rooftop Solar initiative, the organization stands firm in its commitment to contributing significantly to sustainable energy practices within the railway infrastructure. The proactive pursuit of clean energy solutions underscores CR’s role as a pioneer in integrating eco-friendly technologies into its operations, setting an example for energy efficiency and environmental responsibility in the transportation sector.
