Cabinet Decisions: Railway Bonus, Bihar Projects, Shipbuilding Package, and Expansion of Medical Education

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined several major Cabinet decisions during a briefing on Tuesday.

The Cabinet approved a Productivity Linked Bonus of 78 days for more than 10.91 lakh railway employees, with an outlay of ₹1,866 crore. In Bihar, two key infrastructure projects received clearance.

The Sahebganj–Areraj–Bettiah section of NH-139W will be developed as a four-lane highway under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, covering 78.942 km at a cost of ₹3,822.31 crore.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the doubling of the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya railway line, at a cost of ₹2,192 crore.

The Cabinet also sanctioned a ₹69,725 crore package to revitalize India’s shipbuilding and maritime sector, structured around a four-pillar approach focused on shipbuilding, maritime financing, and boosting domestic capacity.

Further, the government approved a major expansion of medical education. Under Phase-III of the Central Sector Scheme (CSS), 5,000 new postgraduate seats will be added, while the extension of CSS will create 5,023 additional MBBS seats across the country.
