Beyond The Word: Pratibha Awasthi’s Tribal Art Exhibition in Delhi

In a vibrant celebration of indigenous artistry, emerging contemporary painter Pratibha Awasthi’s solo exhibition “Beyond The Word: Rich Heritage and Legacy of Tribes” was inaugurated on October 12 at 5 PM by Chief Guest Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, at the Lalit Kala Akademi in Mandi House, drawing art enthusiasts to witness the untold narratives of tribal life etched on canvas.

Hailing from the quaint village of Budhiya Kalaan, nestled adjacent to Dudhwa National Park in the terai region of Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, Awasthi’s formative years were steeped in the unassuming yet profoundly influential tribal-rich locale. Her work, deeply inspired by the visually striking and captivating indigenous art forms that seamlessly integrate into daily existence, transcends mere aesthetics to capture the soulful essence of her aspirations.

The exhibition, which runs from October 12 to 18, showcases Awasthi’s evolving series titled “Untold Story of Tribal Life.” This organic manifestation employs diverse media—acrylics, oils, charcoal, and ink—to encapsulate the semi-conscious states of mind drawn from the simplicity of tribal life and its surrounding milieu. Through her unique style, Awasthi unravels the concealed depths of tribal existence, blending influences from her roots into a compelling visual dialogue.
