BEML Secures ₹414 Crore Additional Order from BMRCL for 6 Driverless Metro Trainsets for Bangalore Yellow Line

Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has bagged a fresh ₹414 crore contract from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to supply six additional intermediate six-car driverless metro trainsets for the upcoming Yellow Line of Namma Metro.
This repeat order takes the total value of metro rolling stock contracts awarded by BMRCL to BEML beyond ₹3,220 crore and strengthens Bengaluru’s push towards world-class, fully automated metro services.
Key Highlights of the ₹414 Crore BEML-BMRCL Deal
- Contract value: ₹414 crore
- Scope: Supply of 6 intermediate six-coach driverless (GoA4) trainsets
- Deployment: Yellow Line (RV Road – Bommasandra via Electronic City)
- Line length: 19.15 km elevated corridor
- Expected opening: Partial operations by mid-2026, full line by late 2026
- Automation level: GoA4 (Unattended Train Operation) with CBTC signaling
Extension of 2021 Mega Order
The new order is an add-on to the ₹3,177 crore contract awarded to BEML in 2021 for 43 trainsets (21 standard-gauge + 22 broad-gauge) under Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 and Phase 2A. With this addition, BEML remains the largest supplier of metro coaches for Namma Metro’s ongoing expansion.

- Passenger capacity: ~2,000 per six-car train

The trains are being manufactured at BEML’s Bangalore Complex and will significantly boost capacity on one of Bengaluru’s most congested IT corridors – Electronic City.
Strategic Importance of Bangalore Metro Yellow Line
The RV Road–Bommasandra Yellow Line (Reach 5) is a game-changer for south Bengaluru commuters. Once operational, it will:
- Connect major IT hubs including Electronic City, Bommasandra Industrial Area, and Silk Board
- Reduce road traffic on Hosur Road and Electronic City Elevated Expressway
- Offer seamless interchange with Pink Line at RV Road and Blue Line at Silk Board

Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 Progress
Upon completion of Phase 2 and 2A, Namma Metro network will expand to over 175 km with 150+ stations, making it India’s second-largest metro system after Delhi Metro. The Yellow Line will be Bengaluru’s first fully driverless corridor, joining Delhi and Mumbai in operating GoA4 metro trains.
Boost to BEML’s Order Book
With this contract, BEML’s current order book crosses ₹14,000 crore. The company is simultaneously executing metro projects for Mumbai Metro, Kolkata Metro, and international clients, cementing its position as India’s leading metro coach manufacturer.
