Northern Railways Vigilance Team’s Decoy Operation at Supreme Court Premises Thwarts Touting and Illegal TATKAL Ticket Sales

In an effort to crack down on the rampant touting and unauthorized sale of TATKAL tickets, the Northern Railways Vigilance team executed a highly successful decoy operation today at the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) office located in the premises of the Supreme Court.

The operation unfolded on the evening of May 24 when an undercover customer engaged in a transaction with a suspected ticket agent in the Yusuf Sarai/Green Park area of South Delhi. Confirming their suspicions, the agent then forwarded the request to the PRS counter at the Supreme Court the following morning. During the Vigilance check conducted at the PRS counter on May 25, the team discovered the very same decoyed ticket left unattended. Despite waiting until 12:20 hrs for the claimant, no one appeared to collect it.

Consequently, the Northern Railway Vigilance team took custody of the ticket and, after filing a joint report, returned to the Baroda House. To complete the investigation, the Vigilance team, accompanied by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), approached the implicated agents in the Green Park area, bringing along the decoy customer. When the decoy inquired about his ticket, an individual present in the shop revealed that the ticket had been seized due to a vigilance check and could not be delivered. Capitalizing on this moment, the Vigilance team, together with the RPF, swiftly entered the shop and gathered all pertinent documents and data. The RPF is currently finalizing the necessary procedures for the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved under the Railway Act. Meanwhile, the concerned ECRC, Shri Anil Kumar Sharma, has already been suspended pending further investigation.

This operation marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to curb ticket touting and illegal ticket sales within the Northern Railways network. By actively targeting unauthorized agents and working in collaboration with the RPF, the Vigilance team aims to ensure a fair and transparent ticketing system for all passengers.
