Fake Railway Recruitment Racket Busted by RPF in Kharagpur
Kharagpur: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has unearthed a fake recruitment racket operating within the DRM office premises in Kharagpur, following numerous complaints lodged by victims. Suspicions were raised regarding the involvement of both railway employees and external individuals in this fraudulent scheme.
A Special Team Formed:
In response to the complaints, a specialized team was assembled under the leadership of IPF/G. Store/KGP, Suresh Kumar, accompanied by SI Sunil Kumar Jha of RPF/Post/PKU and HC S.P. Mahapatra from RPF/Post/MCA.
Verification of Information:
Upon thorough investigation, it was confirmed that Sabina Khatoon, also known as Sweety or Pinki, a 35-year-old widow of late Ansar Mallick, residing at New Town Road, Flat no. A 1, Bhorer Alo, near LIC building, Inda, PS- Kharagpur (Local), Dist- Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, was the key figure in the scam. She had been luring individuals seeking employment in the railway sector.
Trap Set:
Undercover informants were deployed to establish contact with Sabina Khatoon. During their interactions, Khatoon claimed to have influential contacts within the DRM office and offered to secure jobs in exchange for Rs 3 lakhs. She instructed the informants to visit the DRM office with Rs 50,000 in cash and necessary documents for processing.
Execution of the Trap:
Acting on reliable intelligence, a joint surveillance and raid operation was conducted by RPF and GRP on March 28, 2024, at the DRM office complex and KGP station area. The operation led to the interception of Sabina Khatoon, who was caught red-handed with Rs 10,000, paid by one victim as an installment. Khatoon confessed to her involvement and implicated railway employee Dulab Chinna, aged 49, and retired railway employee M. Koteshwar Rao, aged 62, as her associates.
Legal Action Taken:
A case has been registered at GRPS/KGP under sections 319, 320, and 120(B) IPC against the culprits. Further interrogation and investigation are underway to uncover all aspects of this nefarious racket.
