RailTel Delivers State-of-the-Art Telecom Solutions for G20 Summit at Pragati Maidan
New Delhi, September 11, 2023 – RailTel, a leading provider of telecom solutions, has successfully delivered integrated telecom solutions and carrier-class cybersecurity solutions for the G20 Summit held at Pragati Maidan. This monumental undertaking included the deployment of a massive infrastructure comprising 1675 indoor antennas, over 35 kilometers of RF cable, and 25 kilometers of fiber cable. The primary objective was to provide uninterrupted telecom services of global standards across the sprawling 122-acre ITPO Campus.
As world leaders gathered in New Delhi for the G20 Summit, the need for reliable and secure telecom infrastructure was paramount. RailTel, along with its partners, invested over 3600 man-days to establish a cutting-edge mobile network infrastructure and a neutral in-building telecom infrastructure. This infrastructure significantly enhanced mobile coverage within the expansive ITPO campus.
The telecom infrastructure deployment included:
- 1675 indoor antennas
- 300 access points
- Over 35 kilometers of RF cable
- 25 kilometers of fiber cable
In addition to bolstering mobile coverage, RailTel strategically placed WiFi infrastructure in outdoor corridors, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the various halls designated for G20 events. The back-end IT infrastructure for WiFi access was seamlessly integrated with the indoor WiFi infrastructure. RailTel also provided passive infrastructure support to telecom companies.
To ensure reliable internet access, RailTel provisioned internet bandwidth from two internet up-streams through five different physical paths. Furthermore, RailTel deployed robust cybersecurity solutions to safeguard the network infrastructure. This included secure configuration management, firewall deployment, and intrusion prevention systems to prevent unauthorized access and activities within the event’s network environment.
RailTel collaborated closely with CDAC, CERT-IN, NIC, and MHA under the guidance of MEA to deliver a safe and resilient telecom solution for the G20 Summit. The entire project received strong support from the Department of Telecom, ensuring seamless coordination with mobile service providers under the guidance of the honorable Minister of Telecom, IT, and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As an additional service, RailTel provided end-to-end bandwidth to integrate camera feeds from various locations, enhancing security monitoring during the G20 event. This connectivity allowed Delhi Police and other key security agencies to closely monitor the event’s security and the movement of the G20 delegation along dedicated routes across Delhi.
Sanjai Kumar, CMD/RailTel, commented on the project’s success, stating, “It was a very challenging as well as rewarding work for us. Despite a plethora of roadblocks, our team, as well as our partners, completed the work and made the telecom infra ready on time. The success of this project is going to further motivate the team to work even harder with more dedication in the future towards the digital transformation journey of the country, emerging as an even stronger digital partner.”
Manoj Tandon, Director Project, Operations, and Maintenance, highlighted the scale and complexity of the G20 project, saying, “RailTel took the challenge of bringing the entire telecom fraternity together to deliver the G20 project of very high complexity and scale.”
