PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate and Dedicate Major Railway Projects in Odisha Worth Over Rs. 8000 Crores

On May 18th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone and dedicate multiple railway projects in Odisha, collectively valued at over Rs. 8000 crores. The event is scheduled to commence at approximately 12:30 PM via video conferencing.

Among the significant initiatives, the Prime Minister will flag off the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express, which will operate between Puri and Howrah. This high-speed train will traverse through various districts in Odisha such as Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore, as well as Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur districts in West Bengal. The introduction of this train will facilitate faster, more comfortable, and convenient travel for passengers, while also promoting tourism and contributing to the overall economic development of the region.

Furthermore, the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Puri and Cuttack railway stations will be laid by the Prime Minister. The revamped stations will be equipped with modern amenities, offering a world-class experience to rail passengers.

In a major milestone, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the complete electrification of the rail network in Odisha. This achievement will lead to reduced operating and maintenance costs and a decreased dependence on imported crude oil, showcasing India’s commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the doubling of the Sambalpur-Titlagarh rail line, the new broad gauge rail line connecting Angul and Sukinda, the third line linking Manoharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and Jamga, as well as the new broad-gauge line connecting Bichhupali and Jhartarbha. These infrastructure developments are aimed at meeting the growing transportation demands resulting from rapid industrial growth in Odisha’s steel, power, and mining sectors. Moreover, they will help alleviate the passenger traffic congestion in these railway sections.
