New Deadline Set for Mandatory Testing of Transport Vehicles through Automated Stations

In a recent development, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a notification, GSR 663(E) dated 12th September 2023, announcing an extension of the deadline for mandatory testing of Transport Vehicles through Automated Testing Stations. This notification is in accordance with rule 175 of the CMVR 1989.

The new date for mandatory testing is now set for 1st October 2024. Furthermore, it is imperative to note that fitness testing of vehicles will only be conducted through automated testing stations, effective immediately from the publication of this notification, provided that an automated testing station registered under rule 175 is operational within the jurisdiction of a registering authority.

Previously, the following dates were notified in GSR notification 272(E) dated 5th April 2022:

  1. For Heavy Goods Vehicles/Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicles: Testing became mandatory from 1st April 2023 onwards.
  2. For Medium Goods Vehicles/Medium Passenger Motor Vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles (Transport): Testing became mandatory from 1st June 2024 onwards.

This extension allows for a smoother transition to the mandatory testing of transport vehicles through automated stations, ensuring enhanced safety and compliance with regulations in the transport sector.
