In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing access to top-tier oncology medications, India has unveiled a National Cancer Grid pooled procurement initiative. In a joint effort led by esteemed medical professionals, including C S Pramesh and Manju Sengar, India has embarked on a mission to improve access to high-quality oncology drugs. The National Cancer Grid, comprising over 250 cancer centers across the nation, initiated a pooled procurement strategy for essential anti-cancer and supportive care medicines. In total, a staggering 13.2 billion Indian Rupees (US$ 166.7 million) were saved compared to maximum retail prices. This represents a median savings of 82%, with generics proving to be particularly cost-effective.
