Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station gets ‘PLATINUM’ certification of IGBC Green Railway Stations Rating

Providing a major impetus to Indian Railways green pursuits and endeavours, today during the World Green Building Week, #buildingforeveryone, Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, South Central Railways, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Platinum’ IGBC Green Railway Stations rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Abhay Kumar Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, South Central Railway (SCR) received IGBC plaque from V. Suresh, Chairman, IGBC Policy and Advocacy Committee & Government Relations Immediate Past National Chairman – IGBC and C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter.
Abhay Gupta, DRM, while expressing delight over the remarkable achievement of the Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, said that such an achievement will encourage other Railway facilities across the country to go the green way and in the process, build a sustainable and healthier India.
Hyderabad Railway Station is an NSG category 2 station & one of the busiest and oldest Railway station in South Central Railway with around 55,000 passengers/day. The station has worked tremendously towards greening its building and associated services. The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) appreciates and acknowledges this excellent accomplishment and intent of Secunderabad Division & Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station Team’s commitment.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) recognises several initiatives planned by Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station team, which include commuter-friendly design facilities for differently abled and senior citizens. Adequate green cover to protect habitat and promote biodiversity, 100% LED lights in the interior and exterior areas, initiative to reduce the heat island effect by covering 87% of roof area covered with SRI paints, China Mosaics tiles and Solar Panels, Co2 monitoring system in the AC waiting halls and AC office rooms with provision of an exhaust fan air damper, onsite generation of electricity by solar-PV (227 kWp) for more than 34% of station’s non-traction power consumption, 95% of total energy use applications are metered and 100% of supply sources and major consumption area of water is metered, reduction in water usage through low flow fixtures. 100 % of water is diverted to treatment systems (300 KLD capacity) and treated water is used for coach washing, platform and apron washing, landscaping, and flushing thereby reducing 15.2% of potable water demand. With the usage of rainwater/recycled water, the station is saving approximately an amount of ₹.7.78 lacks/Year. Smart facilities available at Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station – Wi-Fi, CCTV, ATVM, Food court, smart card ticketing, tourism information and booking centre, Child help desk etc.
