Google Celebrates 25 Years: A Journey from a Dorm Room to Global Influence

In a remarkable milestone, today’s Google Doodle commemorates the tech giant’s 25th anniversary. While Google is renowned for its forward-looking approach, birthdays also provide an opportunity for reflection. Let’s embark on a nostalgic journey to discover the inception of this internet titan a quarter-century ago.

In a twist of fate, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, both doctoral students, crossed paths in Stanford University’s computer science program during the late ’90s. Their serendipitous meeting revealed a shared vision: to enhance accessibility on the World Wide Web. Collaborating fervently from their dormitories, they painstakingly crafted a prototype for a superior search engine. As progress continued to mount, they relocated their operation to Google’s inaugural headquarters—a rented garage. On September 27, 1998, Google Inc. was officially born.

Since that pivotal year, much has transformed, as exemplified by today’s altered logo in the Doodle. Nevertheless, Google’s mission remains unwavering: to organize the world’s information and ensure its universal accessibility and utility. Billions of individuals across the globe turn to Google for search, connectivity, productivity, entertainment, and a multitude of other purposes.

We extend our gratitude to all who have evolved with us over these past 25 years. The future holds boundless possibilities, and we eagerly anticipate this journey ahead, together.
