DFC Achieves Milestone of Running 100,000 Trains on Dedicated Freight Corridor

In a significant achievement, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) marked a major milestone by successfully operating 100,000 trains on its expansive network. The momentous occasion was commemorated by Jaya Varma Sinha, Member of Operations & Business Development at the Railway Board, as she flagged off Train No. 100,000 on the DFC alignment today. Accompanied by Nanduri Srinivas, Director of Operations & Business Development at DFCCIL, Sinha also embarked on the train’s footplate journey.

The inaugural train on the DFC was ceremoniously flagged off by Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, on December 29, 2020. Since then, a total of 55,332 trains have traversed the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), while 44,658 trains have operated on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).

As of today, approximately 73.5% of the DFC, covering 2089 route kilometers, has been commissioned, with the exception of the JNPT connectivity. The remaining DFC alignment is expected to be fully operational by December 2023.

The recent commissioning of the New Dadri-New Rewari section has greatly facilitated seamless freight transportation from the hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh to the western ports of India. The DFC plays a pivotal role in the National Logistics Policy, which aims to reduce the logistics cost from around 15% of the country’s GDP to 8% by 2030.

The augmentation of freight infrastructure capacity through the DFC is crucial in achieving Indian Railways’ target of 3,000 million metric tons of freight loading by 2030. With the implementation of time-tabled trains, taking advantage of the DFC’s strengths such as speed, higher throughput, and enhanced safety measures, the mobility of freight traffic is ensured.

The DFC has emerged as a game-changer in the realm of freight transportation, revolutionizing the logistics landscape of the country. Its dedicated corridors and advanced infrastructure enable faster and more efficient movement of goods, ultimately boosting economic growth and development.

The successful operation of 100,000 trains on the Dedicated Freight Corridor reflects the unwavering commitment of Indian Railways towards modernizing and expanding the nation’s rail network, ensuring a sustainable and robust transportation system for years to come.
