Tragedy Strikes in Bihar as North East Express Derails: Relief Train Dispatched for Stranded Passengers
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed deep condolences on Twitter for the profound loss and pledged to investigate the cause of the derailment. A train to transport stranded passengers for their onward journey has arrived and is set to depart shortly. The focus has now shifted to restoration efforts.
A massive rescue operation is underway at the Buxar derailment site, with the combined efforts of NDRF, SDRF, district administration, railway officials, and local residents working together. Injured individuals have been transferred to hospitals, and a war room has been established to coordinate operations. Evacuation and rescue operations are now complete, with all coaches thoroughly inspected. Passengers will soon be transferred to a special train for their onward journey.
The tragic incident involving the North East Express (Train No. 12506) occurred near Raghunathpur Railway Station in Danapur Division on the evening of October 11th. The derailment resulted in at least four fatalities and several injuries, with 21 coaches derailing.
The Railway Minister emphasized that their immediate priority is providing medical assistance and travel arrangements for the affected passengers. Further investigations into the incident will be conducted after the rescue operation.
