Central Railway Advances Safety and Technology Initiatives Across Its Network
Mumbai, October 3, 2023 – The Central Railway (CR) continues to make significant strides in enhancing safety, connectivity, and passenger experience across its extensive network. With a firm commitment to improving train operations and passenger mobility, CR has achieved remarkable milestones in various areas.
Automatic Signalling System Expansion
In a significant move toward ensuring the safety of train operations, the Central Railway has installed the Automatic Signalling System over a substantial stretch of its route. A total of 336 kilometers of railway lines are now equipped with this advanced technology. Moreover, the railway authority has sanctioned ongoing works to extend the Automatic Signalling System, covering a distance of 289.88 kilometers. Notable sections in this expansion include the Bodwad-Badnera-Wardha route and the Khadki-Pune corridor.
Level Crossing Gate Upgradation
Safety remains a paramount concern for the Central Railway, and this commitment is reflected in its initiatives. To enhance safety measures, the CR has upgraded a total of 350 level crossing gates with the Interlocking Signalling System. This technology ensures seamless coordination between trains and road traffic, reducing the risk of accidents.
Wi-Fi Accessibility
In a bid to improve passenger experience, the Central Railway has made significant progress in providing Wi-Fi connectivity at railway stations. As of now, a total of 387 stations under the CR network are equipped with Wi-Fi facilities, allowing passengers to stay connected and access digital services during their journeys.
Investment in Signalling Upgradation
The Central Railway has allocated a substantial budget for signalling system upgradation in the fiscal year 2023-24. An estimated Rs 254 crores have been earmarked for this purpose. Of this allocation, Rs 137 crores have already been utilized, reflecting the railway’s commitment to investing in cutting-edge technology to ensure safety and efficiency.
