Cyclone Mocha likely to intensify over Bay of Bengal
A low pressure area that has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea
A low pressure area that has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a depression on May 9th, and further into a cyclonic storm on May 10th. The cyclonic storm is predicted to move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts after initially moving north-northwestwards.
The India Meteorological Department has issued various warnings in connection with the cyclone. Heavy rainfall is expected in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from May 9th to 11th, and fishermen and ships are advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 8th to 12th.
Wind speeds are also expected to be high, reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph over the east-central Bay of Bengal on May 12th. The sea condition is likely to be very rough to high over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 10th to 11th, and high to very high over the east-central Bay of Bengal from May 12th.
