Government starts to procure Kharif crops at minimum support price
With the commencement of the Kharif marketing season, the government has started to procure crops at minimum support price from farmers as per as was done in previous seasons.
Paddy procurement is progressing in full swing with purchase of over 76.77 lakh metric tonnes of paddy till Friday from 6.69 lack farmers with MSP outflow of Rs. 14495.22 crore.
Further, based on the proposal from the States, approval was accorded for procurement of 41.67 lakh metric tonne of pulse and oilseeds for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under Price Support Scheme.
Further, sanction for procurement of 1.23 lakh metric tonne of copra for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala was also given.
For other states and Union Territories, approval will also be accorded on receipt of proposals for the procurement of pulses, oilseeds and copra under Price Support Scheme, according to an official release.
Till Friday, the government through its nodal agencies has procured 723.79 metric tonne of moong and urad having MSP of Rs 5.21 crore benefitting 681 farmers in Tamil Nadu Maharashtra and Haryana.
