Agra Division Holds Winter Safety Seminar at Mathura Training Centre to Strengthen Railway Track Monitoring

Railway Engineers Emphasise Regular Track Inspection, Effective Patrolling and Strict Compliance with Safety Guidelines Ahead of Foggy Winter Season

The Agra Division of North Central Railway organised a seminar on winter safety precautions at the Mathura Training Centre, focusing on strengthening railway safety arrangements and ensuring smooth and uninterrupted train operations during the winter season.

The seminar was organised by the Engineering Department with the objective of preparing railway officials and field staff to address operational challenges arising from low temperatures, fog and other weather-related conditions during winter.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Agra, Gagan Goyal, attended the programme, which was conducted under the leadership of Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination) Shailesh Kumar. Senior Divisional Engineers, Divisional Engineers, Assistant Divisional Engineers and 15 Permanent Way Inspectors (PWIs) in charge, along with other concerned railway officials and employees of the Agra Division, participated in the seminar.

The discussions primarily focused on the importance of maintaining railway tracks in proper condition, strengthening inspection mechanisms and ensuring strict implementation of prescribed winter safety measures to prevent accidents and disruptions in train operations.

Regular Track Patrolling and Inspection Highlighted

One of the key subjects discussed during the seminar was effective patrolling of railway tracks during winter. Railway officials emphasised that regular monitoring and timely inspection were essential to identify potential defects and prevent safety-related incidents.

Particular attention was given to the early detection of rail fractures and other track-related defects. Officials discussed the importance of identifying such problems promptly, reporting them to the concerned authorities and taking immediate corrective action to maintain the safety of railway infrastructure.

The seminar also highlighted the need for proper maintenance of railway tracks, especially during the winter months, when changing weather conditions can create additional challenges for railway engineering personnel.

Field-level staff and Permanent Way Inspectors were encouraged to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure that inspection and maintenance activities were carried out systematically.

Special Precautions During Foggy Conditions

Fog-related safety measures formed another important part of the discussions. Reduced visibility during winter can affect train operations and requires additional precautions from railway personnel responsible for safe train movement.

The participants discussed the importance of following established safety procedures during foggy conditions and ensuring that all operational and engineering instructions issued by the railway administration were implemented without deviation.

The seminar stressed that coordination among engineering officials, field supervisors and other concerned departments was essential to maintain safe railway operations during periods of poor visibility.

Strict Compliance with Winter Safety Instructions

The seminar placed particular emphasis on the need for additional vigilance throughout the winter season. Railway officials highlighted that safety instructions issued by Indian Railways must be followed strictly to minimise operational risks.

Regular track inspections, effective patrolling, timely reporting of defects and proper maintenance were identified as essential elements of the winter safety preparedness programme.

Participants were also sensitised to their responsibilities in ensuring that potential safety concerns were identified and addressed without delay. The discussions underlined the importance of maintaining continuous communication between field-level personnel and supervisory officials.

Focus on Safe and Uninterrupted Train Operations

The Agra Division’s winter safety seminar was aimed at strengthening preparedness across the Engineering Department before the onset of challenging winter weather conditions.

With fog and low temperatures potentially affecting railway operations, the division is focusing on preventive maintenance, systematic monitoring and strict adherence to established safety protocols.

The participation of senior engineering officials and field-level supervisors provided an opportunity to discuss practical challenges associated with winter track maintenance and identify measures to improve safety preparedness.

The seminar concluded with an emphasis on collective responsibility, increased alertness and disciplined implementation of winter precautions to ensure safe, smooth and uninterrupted train operations across the Agra Division during the winter season.

The initiative reflects Indian Railways’ focus on preventive safety measures and infrastructure monitoring to maintain operational reliability during the fog-prone winter months.
