North Central Railway Achieves Annual Scrap Sales Target in Just Six Months

North Central Railway (NCR) has achieved a significant milestone in the financial year 2026-27 by meeting its entire annual scrap disposal revenue target within the first six months of the year. The zone generated ₹286.79 crore through scrap sales against the annual target of ₹285 crore set by the Railway Board.
The achievement means that North Central Railway crossed its full-year target halfway through the financial year, recording a performance that the zone described as a new milestone in the efficient disposal of surplus and unused railway assets.
₹286.79 Crore Generated Against ₹285 Crore Target
The Railway Board had fixed an annual scrap disposal target of ₹285 crore for North Central Railway for 2026-27. According to the railway administration, the zone achieved revenue of ₹286.79 crore from the disposal of scrap during the first six months of the financial year.
The achievement represents approximately 100.6 per cent of the annual target within only half of the financial year.
The railway administration attributed the performance to focused planning, systematic identification of scrap material and efficient disposal mechanisms across the zone.
North Central Railway said the achievement was made under the direction of General Manager Naresh Pal Singh, with strategic guidance from Principal Chief Materials Manager S.P. Dwivedi.
Focus on Efficient Asset Management
The disposal of scrap is an important component of railway asset management. Railway zones periodically identify obsolete, condemned, surplus and unused materials for disposal through prescribed procedures.
Such materials can include discarded railway equipment, components, machinery, metal items and other assets that are no longer required for operational use.
By accelerating the disposal process, railway administrations can recover revenue from assets that would otherwise remain unused. At the same time, removing accumulated scrap can help free up valuable space at railway stations, depots, workshops, maintenance facilities and other railway premises.
North Central Railway said its latest achievement reflects an emphasis on faster and more efficient management of such unused assets.
Cleaner and Safer Railway Premises
The railway administration said the initiative has produced benefits beyond revenue generation. Systematic removal of scrap has helped in making railway premises cleaner, more organised and safer.
Accumulation of unused material at railway facilities can occupy operational space and create housekeeping and safety challenges. Regular identification and disposal of scrap can therefore contribute to better utilisation of railway premises.
NCR linked the initiative with the broader objective of maintaining clean railway facilities and supporting the goals associated with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The administration said that efforts are continuing to make railway establishments across the zone increasingly free of accumulated scrap.
Entire Zone’s Efforts Credited
North Central Railway credited the achievement to the coordinated efforts of its personnel and departments involved in identifying, segregating, processing and disposing of scrap material.
The administration appreciated the efforts and commitment of the entire North Central Railway team for crossing the annual target in the first half of the financial year.
With ₹286.79 crore already generated against the annual target of ₹285 crore, the zone has also created an opportunity to generate additional revenue from scrap disposal during the remaining six months of 2026-27.
The achievement comes as Indian Railways continues to focus on monetising surplus assets and improving resource efficiency across its zones.
North Central Railway said it remains committed to making the entire zone progressively scrap-free and maximising the contribution of asset management and resource recovery towards railway operations and national development.
The milestone highlights how systematic disposal of obsolete and unused railway material can simultaneously generate revenue, improve housekeeping and release space for more productive use.
