Deep Depression Crosses Myanmar Coast, Weakens Gradually; IMD Issues Rain, Wind and Sea Warnings
The Deep Depression over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast crossed the Myanmar coast between 1930 and 2130 hours IST on September 28, 2026, close to east of Kyaikto, with maximum sustained winds of 50–60 kmph and gusts up to 70 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
After crossing the coast, the system moved north-northwestwards and, at 2330 hours IST on September 28, lay over coastal Myanmar near latitude 17.6°N and longitude 96.8°E. The system was located about 40 km north-northwest of Kyaikto, 40 km northeast of Bago and 110 km northeast of Yangon.
The IMD said the system is expected to continue moving north-northwestwards across coastal Myanmar, adjoining eastcentral and northeast Bay of Bengal and southeast Bangladesh during the next two days.

The forecast indicates a gradual weakening of the system as it moves farther inland and north-northwestwards.
Heavy Rainfall Warning
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated heavy rainfall, over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 29.
Similar conditions are expected over Mizoram and Tripura, where light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely on September 29 and 30.

Strong Winds and Rough Seas
Squally weather with winds of 50–60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, was prevailing over the Andaman Sea, along and off the Myanmar coast and the Andaman Islands. Winds are expected to weaken to 45–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, by the morning of September 29 and further to 40–50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, by evening.
The eastcentral Bay of Bengal and areas along and off the Myanmar coast are also expected to experience squally winds. Over the northeast Bay of Bengal and along the Bangladesh coast, winds of 40–50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are likely during September 29–30.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough over the Andaman Sea, adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off the Myanmar coast through September 29 evening. Rough to very rough seas are also likely along the Myanmar-Bangladesh coasts and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal during September 29–30.
Fishermen Advised to Avoid Sea
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the affected marine areas.

Possible Impact
The IMD warned that strong winds and heavy rainfall could break branches and uproot small trees such as banana, papaya and drumstick trees. Plantation, horticulture and standing crops may suffer damage, while vulnerable structures could face partial damage.
Hilly areas of Mizoram and Tripura could experience localized landslides, mudslides and landslips. Waterlogging, inundation and localized flooding are also possible in low-lying areas.
Onshore and offshore operations, small ships, trawlers and boats could be affected. Heavy rain may temporarily reduce visibility, while helicopter services may also face disruptions.
Authorities have been advised to regulate surface transport, fishing, tourism and recreational activities, as well as onshore and offshore operations and helicopter services, depending on weather conditions.
The IMD advised residents to monitor weather updates and be prepared to move to safer locations if conditions deteriorate. The next bulletin was scheduled for 0930 hours IST on September 29, 2026.
