Special Cleanliness Drive Held at Heritage and Tourist Sites on World Tourism Day

The Agra Division of Indian Railways conducted a special cleanliness and public awareness drive at key tourist and heritage locations on September 27, 2026, marking World Tourism Day. The initiative was organised under the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign, being conducted from September 17 to October 2, with a focus on encouraging public participation in cleanliness and promoting responsible tourism.

The drive was carried out under the guidance of Agra Divisional Railway Manager Gagan Goyal and the direction of Additional Divisional Railway Manager Girish Kumar Gupta. Special cleanliness activities were organised at major pilgrimage, tourist and heritage locations across the division, including Mathura Junction, Agra Cantt, Agra Fort, Dholpur and Agra City stations. The Divisional Railway Manager’s office and other prominent heritage locations were also covered under the campaign.

As part of the initiative, special cleaning activities were undertaken at heritage railway stations, museum coaches, iconic railway locations and stations witnessing significant passenger movement linked to tourist and pilgrimage destinations. Cleanliness messages under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign were prominently displayed at these locations to create greater awareness among passengers and tourists.

Special attention was also given to community sanitation complexes and public toilets, which were thoroughly cleaned as part of the drive. Heritage railway buildings and monuments were illuminated and decorated in line with the campaign, highlighting the importance of maintaining cleanliness while preserving the architectural and cultural heritage associated with the railway network.

The campaign also sought to promote responsible tourism and civic behaviour among passengers and visitors. Railway authorities appealed to tourists and passengers to avoid littering in public places, use designated dustbins and minimise the unnecessary use of plastic. They were also encouraged to help keep the railway’s historical and heritage assets clean, safe and well-maintained.

Railway employees and sanitation workers interacted with passengers during the campaign and conveyed the importance of maintaining cleanliness at tourist and heritage destinations. They highlighted that clean tourism locations not only provide visitors with a better travel experience but also contribute to protecting the country’s cultural heritage and environment.

The special drive combined cleanliness activities with public awareness efforts, reflecting the broader objectives of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’. Through such initiatives at high-footfall tourist and pilgrimage locations, the Agra Division aims to encourage greater public participation and responsible behaviour while maintaining the cleanliness and visual appeal of railway heritage assets.

The campaign will continue as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ initiative through October 2, 2026, with activities aimed at strengthening awareness and citizen participation in cleanliness.
