PM Modi Meets U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio, Reviews Strategic Ties

India and the United States discuss defence, technology, trade, and global security issues, while PM Modi reiterates support for peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both sides reviewing the growing momentum in India-U.S. relations and discussing key regional and global developments, including the evolving situation in West Asia.

During the meeting, Secretary Rubio briefed Prime Minister Modi on the continued progress in bilateral cooperation across a broad range of strategic sectors. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in defence, advanced technologies, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The meeting reflected the deepening strategic partnership between India and the United States, which has expanded significantly in recent years across economic, technological, and geopolitical areas. Officials said both countries remain committed to enhancing cooperation in emerging sectors while maintaining close coordination on global challenges.

According to the official statement issued after the meeting, Secretary Rubio shared the United States’ perspective on several regional and international issues. The discussions prominently included the ongoing developments in West Asia and the broader global security environment.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position in favour of peace, dialogue, and diplomatic engagement in resolving international conflicts. He reaffirmed India’s consistent support for efforts aimed at restoring stability and promoting peaceful solutions through negotiations and diplomacy.

India has repeatedly advocated dialogue-based resolutions to global conflicts while maintaining engagement with all sides in major international crises. The Prime Minister’s remarks during the meeting underscored New Delhi’s continued emphasis on diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution amid rising geopolitical tensions in different parts of the world.

The leaders also reviewed the growing cooperation between India and the United States in critical and emerging technologies. Over the past few years, the two nations have expanded partnerships in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, cybersecurity, defence manufacturing, and digital innovation.

Trade and investment also figured prominently in the discussions. India and the U.S. have witnessed a steady rise in bilateral trade, with both countries exploring opportunities to further strengthen economic ties and improve market access. Officials indicated that collaboration in supply chains, manufacturing, and energy security remains a major focus area for both governments.

Defence cooperation between the two strategic partners has also gained momentum, with increased military exercises, defence technology partnerships, and procurement initiatives. India and the U.S. continue to work closely under various bilateral and multilateral frameworks aimed at ensuring stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The meeting additionally highlighted the importance of educational partnerships and people-to-people ties, which remain a key pillar of India-U.S. relations. Thousands of Indian students continue to pursue higher education in the United States, while growing cultural and professional exchanges have further strengthened the relationship between the two democracies.

Prime Minister Modi also requested Secretary Rubio to convey his warm greetings to U.S. President Donald Trump. He expressed confidence in the continued engagement between the leadership of the two countries and said he looked forward to further exchanges with President Trump in the future.

The meeting comes at a time when India and the United States are intensifying cooperation on strategic and economic priorities amid rapidly changing global dynamics. Analysts believe the continued high-level engagements between leaders and senior officials of both countries signal a shared commitment to expanding the comprehensive global strategic partnership.

India and the U.S. have increasingly aligned on issues related to regional security, resilient supply chains, technological cooperation, and economic growth. With both countries seeking stronger collaboration in emerging sectors and geopolitical coordination, the partnership is expected to remain a central pillar of their foreign policy priorities in the coming years.
