DFCCIL Handles First Automobile NMG Rake at New Gulaothi Terminal, Boosts Logistics Efficiency

In a major boost to rail-based freight movement, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited has successfully handled its first NMG (New Modified Goods) rake carrying motor cars at the New Gulaothi Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal on April 4, 2026.

The rake, consisting of 12 NMG wagons loaded with automobiles, originated from Champaner Road railway station and was transported seamlessly to New Gulaothi. The operation was managed by M/s Sushila Venkateshwar Integrated Logistics LLP, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of automobile logistics through dedicated freight corridors.

Officials said the successful unloading at the New Gulaothi terminal highlights the growing importance of multimodal cargo infrastructure developed under the Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The terminal is designed to enhance first- and last-mile connectivity, enabling smoother integration between rail networks and industrial supply chains.

The move is particularly significant for the automobile sector, which relies heavily on efficient, large-scale, and time-sensitive logistics solutions. By leveraging rail transport, companies can benefit from reduced transit times, improved reliability, and cost efficiencies compared to traditional road-based transport.

The development also reflects DFCCIL’s broader strategy to diversify its freight portfolio and attract new business segments. By facilitating the movement of high-value cargo such as automobiles, the corporation aims to strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders and promote sustainable logistics practices.

Railway officials noted that such initiatives are key to achieving a modal shift from road to rail, a core objective of India’s logistics and infrastructure policy. Increased use of freight corridors is expected to reduce congestion on highways, lower carbon emissions, and improve overall supply chain efficiency.

The successful handling of the NMG rake at New Gulaothi marks another step forward in modernising India’s freight ecosystem, reinforcing the role of dedicated freight corridors in driving economic growth and logistics transformation.
