CoP30 Should Be the ‘CoP of Adaptation’: Bhupender Yadav Calls for Turning Climate Commitments into Real-world Action

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has urged that the upcoming CoP30 in Belém should be remembered as the “CoP of Adaptation.” Speaking at the Pre-CoP30 Ministerial Roundtable in Brazil, he called for transforming global climate commitments into tangible, locally grounded actions that improve lives.

Yadav emphasized that multilateralism must remain central to global climate efforts as the world marks a decade since the Paris Agreement. He urged nations to agree on a minimum package of indicators under the UAE–Belém Work Programme and to strengthen public and private climate finance for adaptation.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to cooperative climate leadership, he cited initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and International Big Cat Alliance. Yadav concluded that CoP30 must reaffirm faith in equity, multilateralism, and actionable climate solutions.
