Vande Bharat Trains Key to India’s Bullet Train High-Speed Technology Development
Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights Vande Bharat Train as Stepping Stone for Bullet Train Technology
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently spoke about the development of India’s bullet train, emphasizing the key role played by the Vande Bharat train in the journey towards high-speed rail technology. He noted that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Vande Bharat train, the vision was clear – it was intended to be a stepping stone towards the development of the bullet train. The experiences gained from the Vande Bharat semi-high-speed trains were seen as crucial for transitioning to full high-speed technology, leading to the ongoing development of the bullet train project.
Minister Vaishnaw explained the technical challenges involved in designing trains that can travel at speeds of 250 km/h or higher. At such speeds, the train creates a vacuum effect around the coach, which presents a unique challenge for design. The coach body must be airtight and aerodynamically optimized to handle the intense forces generated at these speeds. He emphasized that significant work is underway to address these challenges, with a focus on perfecting the design and ensuring the train’s structural integrity.
The development of India’s bullet train, as described by Vaishnaw, is a major and complex project, requiring advanced engineering and technology. However, he expressed confidence that with the knowledge gained from the Vande Bharat initiative, India is on the right path to achieving its goal of world-class high-speed rail.
