Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights Decade of Transparent Railway Recruitment at SC/ST Employees Convention

Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressed the National SC/ST Railway Employees Convention in Nagpur today, highlighting a decade of transparent recruitment in Indian Railways. Vaishnaw revealed that over five lakh railway employees have been recruited in the past 10 years under a transparent and fair process, surpassing the 4.4 lakh recruits between 2004 and 2014.

Speaking at the event held at Ajani Railway Ground, Nagpur, Vaishnaw emphasized the introduction of a first-ever annual recruitment calendar by Indian Railways. This new initiative ensures that recruitment processes are scheduled, streamlined, and conducted in a transparent manner, making it easier for aspiring candidates to prepare and apply. The calendar marks a significant milestone in the Indian Railways’ efforts to bring efficiency and predictability to its recruitment practices.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including B.L. Bhairava, President of the All India SC/ST Railway Employees Association, Dharamveer Meena, General Manager of Central Railway, and Mrs. Neenu, General Manager of South East Central Railway.

Vaishnaw also expressed the government’s commitment to recruitment reforms, ensuring that candidates from all backgrounds, especially the SC/ST communities, are given fair opportunities to serve in Indian Railways.

In his speech, Vaishnaw praised the Modi government for its strong adherence to the Constitution, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s symbolic gesture of bowing to the Constitution when entering Parliament. “Respect for the Constitution is not just symbolic, it is reflected in our actions,” he said.

The Minister also outlined ongoing railway reforms, including the production of 12,000 general coaches, aimed at modernizing the railways and improving services for passengers. During the event, he unveiled a commemorative souvenir recognizing the efforts of the SC/ST Railway Employees Association.

Vaishnaw paid tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Deekshabhoomi Memorial in Nagpur during his visit. The two-day convention will conclude tomorrow, coinciding with Constitution Day
