IIT-Madras to hold hackathon on database technology

IIT-M Pravartak Technologies Foundation, the Technology Innovation Hub of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras has invited applications for a ‘Database Engineering Hackathon’, which is aimed at engaging top developers and engineers across the country to solve critical challenges in database technology.

Participants will  compete for three prizes of ₹3 lakhs, ₹2 lakhs, and ₹1 lakh respectively. The top-performing teams will have the chance to explore incubation support, receive certifications, and collaborate with the IIT Madras Pravartak research community. Calling upon developers from all over India to participate in the hackathon, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said that he looked forward to seeing breakthrough solutions to emerge from the  event. “ At IIT Madras, we are committed to fostering an environment where talent can engage with real-world technology challenges and drive impactful change for the nation. This hackathon is a testament to our mission of advancing research and innovation in database engineering”, he added.

Dr. M.J. Shankar Raman, CEO, IIT-M Pravartak Technologies Foundation, said the hackathon was an invitation for emerging data engineering talent to address complex data challenges. “We aim to fuel transformative innovations in database systems, driving efficiencies and scalability that are crucial for the digital age.”

The scope of the hackathon, he said, was not confined to being a competitive event, It also provides an opportunity to showcase innovations that may be incorporated into IIT-M Pravartak’s groundbreaking research efforts.

“Participants will gain exposure to authentic database challenges, refine their technical skills, and expand their professional pathways within the fast-evolving landscape of data engineering. With certifications for all participants and special recognition for high achievers, the IIT-M Pravartak Hackathon promises an inspiring experience for professionals and enthusiasts alike’, he added.

IIT-M Pravartak Technologies is a Section 8 Company housing a technology innovation hub on sensors, networking, actuators and control systems. It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).

The NM-ICPS is a comprehensive mission aimed at complete convergence with all stakeholders by establishing strong linkages between academia, industry, Government, and International Organizations. It was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2018 at a total outlay of Rs.3,660 Crores for a period of five years. It is working with all the concerned Ministries/ Departments to identify their technology needs, develop solutions and technical support. It aims at development of technology platforms to carry out R&D, translational research, product development, incubating & supporting start-ups as well as commercialization.
