VINBAX 2024: India-Vietnam Joint Military Exercise Kicks Off in Ambala

Ambala, Haryana – The 5th edition of the Vietnam-India bilateral military exercise, VINBAX 2024, officially commenced today and will run from November 4 to November 23, 2024. This year’s exercise is being held in Ambala and Chandimandir and follows the successful joint exercise conducted in Vietnam in 2023, further enhancing the strategic partnership between India and Vietnam.

For the first time, this edition features participation from both the Army and Air Force of the two nations, significantly expanding its scope. The Indian Army contingent includes 47 personnel from a Corps of Engineers Regiment, alongside members from various other arms and services. Similarly, the Vietnamese contingent, consisting of an equal number of troops, is represented by the Vietnam People’s Army.

The primary objective of VINBAX 2024 is to strengthen the joint military capabilities of both nations, particularly in the deployment and operation of Engineer Companies and Medical Teams as part of United Nations peacekeeping efforts under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

This year’s exercise is designed as a field training operation, emphasizing mutual confidence and interoperability while facilitating the exchange of best practices between the Indian Army and the Vietnam People’s Army. A key highlight will be a 48-hour validation exercise, which includes a demonstration of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, along with equipment displays. This will allow both contingents to evaluate their performance in technical military operations under scenarios typical of UN missions.

In addition to military collaboration, VINBAX 2024 offers an invaluable opportunity for the troops to explore and appreciate each other’s social and cultural heritages, further deepening the ties between India and Vietnam.
