Major Highway Projects to Alleviate Traffic Congestion in Delhi-NCR
In an endeavor to combat the persistent issue of traffic congestion in the bustling Delhi-NCR region, several ambitious highway projects are currently underway, aiming to redefine urban connectivity and ease commuting woes.
One such project, the construction of a six-lane access-controlled highway from DND Maharani Bagh to the junction with Jaitpur-Pushta Road, marks a significant step towards alleviating traffic bottlenecks. This segment, known as Package I, spans a length of 9 kilometers and is part of the larger NH-148NA project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative. Commenced on 11th January 2022, this project is expected to be completed by 8th July 2024, with progress currently standing at an impressive 73%.
Similarly, Package II of the NH-148NA project encompasses the construction of a six-lane access-controlled highway from the junction with Jaitpur-Pushta Road to the junction with the sector 62/65 dividing road. With a length of 24 kilometers, this segment, initiated on 10th August 2021, is progressing rapidly, currently standing at 83% completion, and is projected to be finished by 3rd May 2024.
These projects, with a combined cost of Rs. 3565.00 Cr, are crucial components of the larger initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and decongesting the Delhi/NCR area. With provisions for elevated sections, flyovers, vehicle underpasses, and other essential infrastructure, these highways promise to revolutionize urban commuting.
Additionally, the broader DND-Faridabad-Sohna and Jewar Highway project, spanning a length of 60 kilometers, is poised to redefine regional connectivity. Developed in three construction packages, this project addresses the pressing need for improved transit infrastructure, catering to traffic originating from various parts of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, while also facilitating travel to key destinations such as Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. Anticipated to be completed by December 2024, this project holds immense potential in decongesting the Delhi/NCR area and enhancing regional connectivity.
As construction progresses on these transformative projects, Delhi’s landscape is set to undergo a significant transformation, ushering in an era of enhanced mobility and accessibility for residents and commuters alike.
