Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Unveils Rs. 4,000 Crore Highway Boost for Punjab with Inauguration of 29 Projects
In a significant move to propel Punjab’s development through enhanced connectivity, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 29 National Highway projects valued at over Rs. 4,000 crore in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, today. The ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Som Prakash, Punjab BJP State President Sunil Kumar, along with MPs, MLAs, and other officials.
The unveiled projects, aimed at bolstering infrastructure, are anticipated to catalyze overall economic growth in the implementation area and elevate the quality of life for the local population. The initiatives are expected to facilitate seamless and unimpeded traffic flow, enhancing the efficiency of freight transportation.
Among the inaugurated projects is the construction of a 4-lane section connecting Phagwara and Hoshiarpur, including bypasses for Phagwara and Hoshiarpur. This development is poised to provide high-speed connectivity at 100 kmph, reducing the travel time between the two points from 1 hour to a mere 30 minutes. The strategic bypasses in Phagwara and Hoshiarpur are set to alleviate congestion in urban areas, establishing direct connectivity to Hoshiarpur through National Highway 44 (GT Road). Additionally, the construction of the 4-lane Ladowal Bypass linking GT Road and National Highway 5 in Ludhiana is slated to create direct connectivity between Ludhiana-Ferozepur Highway and Delhi-Jalandhar Highway (National Highway 44).
The 4-laning of the Talwandi Bhai to Firozpur section and the Firozpur bypass is expected to enhance connectivity, ensuring safety and swifter movement on the country’s highways. The projects are projected to directly impact religious pilgrimage sites and inter-state connectivity within the designated areas.
During the event, Minister Gadkari also announced new projects to further fortify road connectivity. Notably, a 45 km, 4-lane bypass at Mukerian, Dasuiya, and Bhogpur on the Jalandhar to Pathankot route, valued at Rs. 1600 crore, and a 30 km, 4-lane bypass from Tanda to Hoshiarpur, costing Rs. 800 crore, were unveiled as part of this comprehensive initiative.
The multi-crore investment in these highway projects is set to transform Punjab’s transportation landscape, fostering economic development, ensuring safety, and significantly reducing travel times.
