Major Strides in Infrastructure: Kalyan-Kasara New 3rd Line Construction Progress Update

The construction of the Kalyan-Kasara New 3rd Line in Mumbai Division has marked significant advancements, with a total cost of ₹792.89 Crores. As of now, the expenditure has reached ₹644.41 Crores, showcasing the commitment to this vital project.

The overall physical progress stands at an impressive 50%, covering a substantial length of 67.35 km. Land acquisition, a critical aspect of the project, has been successfully completed for 35.96 out of 49.23 hectares, reaching an impressive 73% completion.

The ongoing works include essential components such as earthwork (9.11 out of 24.04 Lcum), blanketing (2.26 Lcum in progress), and major bridge construction (5 out of 8 in progress). The development of minor bridges, Limited Height Subways (LHS), and Road Under Bridges (RUB) is at 11%, with 23 out of 203 structures currently in progress.

Station building construction is underway for 3 out of 35 stations, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the project. Overhead Equipment (OHE) foundations, OHE mast erections, and indoor and outdoor signaling works are progressing steadily at 15%, 14%, and 8% completion, respectively.

Upon completion, the new 3rd line is poised to alleviate congestion on the busy Kalyan-Kasara Suburban and mail express route, enhancing the overall efficiency and mobility of the trains. The substantial expenditure of ₹2990 Crores to date underscores the commitment to advancing railway infrastructure.

Central Railway’s ongoing efforts in doubling, 3rd, and 4th new lines have shown remarkable progress across its five divisions. In the current fiscal year from April 2023 to the present, 161.80 km of multitracking (new line/doubling/3rd/4th line) has been successfully completed.

With a planned expenditure of ₹3890 Crores for new lines, doubling, and 3rd/4th line projects in the current year, Central Railway is steadfast in its commitment to modernizing and expanding the rail network, ensuring a seamless and efficient transportation system for the region.
